Make your bicycle trips family fun activities.

The search for family fun activities is why cycling is such a great hobby..after all it is a great free child activity. Beyond the act of riding, a kid needs other activities to keep them interested. We all know that kids have the attention span of ...well, children. Rather than keeping your kids just occupied, why not come up with some fun and educational activities?

First thing you can do is ask your kids to help plan your bicycle trips. I am partial to riding on a bicycle trail so most of our trips start with loading bikes on the rack. Some rides can be just for fun. Stopping at playgrounds and having a picnic have been a blast for my son and me. "I Spy" is a favorite of ours as well. The sky's the limit when creating family fun activities!



What about educational rides? You can work on spelling by calling out the names of things along the way and your child can either spell them or tell you the beginning letter of the object. It all depends on your child's age and development. There are several toddler activities available as well as other young child activities.



We like to exercise our creative and artistic muse too! Photography is popular with our little guy. With today's digital camera technology, it's easy for kids to take great digital photos. We hope to have a nice collection of cycling pictures from our budding junior photographer.

A child group activity such as cycling can create an excellent opportunity to bond with friends and family alike. Riding with a couple families can really give the kids a great sense of community and build enthusiasm they can share with friends and classmates.

One of the most fun bicycle trips has to be bicycle camping. This is where planning with your kids can really be fun. Be sure to research thoroughly. You don't want to explain to your kids why the nice police man gave daddy a trespassing ticket or worse set camp in a flood zone.
